Privacy Policy

madamestudio, trading as Kirocast ("Kirocast," "we," "us," or "our"), builds a Mac screen recorder that turns raw captures into polished, share-ready product demos. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app and this website handle, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

Kirocast is designed to keep your recordings and edits on your own Mac. Screen capture, editing, and rendering run locally on your device. We do not sell your data, and we do not upload your recordings or exported videos to our servers unless you explicitly choose to use an optional feature that requires it.

The following content is created and stored locally on your Mac and is not transmitted to us:

  • Screen recordings and any captured camera or microphone input.
  • Edited timelines, effects, and project files.
  • Exported and rendered video.
  • Your in-app settings and preferences.

You control where these files live, when they are deleted, and whether you export or share them.

  • Notification lists. If you ask to be notified about Kirocast for Teams, we collect the email address you submit so we can contact you when it is available. We also still hold email addresses submitted to the earlier early-access list. You can ask us to remove either at any time.
  • Diagnostics and crash reports. If enabled, the app may send anonymous diagnostic information (such as crash logs, app version, and macOS version) to help us fix bugs and improve stability. These reports do not include your recordings or exported videos.
  • Website analytics. This website uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-respecting, self-hosted service, to understand aggregate traffic (such as page views, referrers, and campaign sources from utm_* link parameters). Plausible sets no cookies and does no cross-site tracking, and the data is not used to identify individual visitors.
  • Advertising measurement (with your consent). When we run ads on X or LinkedIn, and only if you choose "Accept" in the cookie banner, this website loads the X Pixel and the LinkedIn Insight Tag. They set cookies and send X and LinkedIn which page you visited and whether you downloaded or bought Kirocast, so we can see which ads work. X and LinkedIn process this data under the X Privacy Policy and the LinkedIn Privacy Policy, and may link it to your account with them. Your choice is kept for six months, and you can change it at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
  • Support requests. If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to share (such as your email address and the contents of your message) so we can respond.
  • Free trial. To start the free trial, the app asks for your email address and sends it a 6-digit code to confirm it. We collect that address, and whether you ticked "Receive Kirocast updates" and when. To allow one trial per Mac, the app also sends an identifier derived from your Mac's hardware UUID and the MAC address of its built-in network interface. Both are hashed on your Mac before they are sent, and hashed again on our server with a secret key, so we never receive or store the raw values. We also record your time zone, so we email you at a reasonable hour; whether and when the app exported a video during the trial, so we know which follow-up email to send; the trial's start and end dates; the app version; and the IP address the request came from. The trial does not send us your recordings, projects, or exported videos.
  • Purchases and licenses. Stripe collects the information needed to process your order as our Merchant of Record. This may include your name, email address, billing address, tax information, payment details, and transaction data. Stripe sends us limited order information, such as your email address, product, transaction identifier, payment status, and country. We use this information to issue and manage your license, provide support, prevent fraud, and meet our legal obligations. We do not receive your full payment card details. If you buy from the app after your free trial, the app adds a random reference for that Mac's trial to the checkout, and Stripe sends it back to us with the order. We use it only to link the purchase to that trial, so the license activates on the Mac that opened the checkout without you typing the key; the key is still emailed to you. The reference is generated by our server and contains nothing about you or your Mac.
  • Optional cloud features. If you choose to use a feature that relies on a third-party service, the data needed for that feature is sent to that provider only for as long as needed to perform the request. We will make any such feature clearly optional.
  • To operate, maintain, and improve the app and website.
  • To diagnose problems and improve reliability and performance.
  • To respond to your support requests and communications.
  • To notify you about early access and product updates you signed up for.
  • To run the free trial, limit it to one per Mac, prevent abuse, and send the emails described below.
  • To issue and manage licenses purchased through Stripe.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Stripe is our Merchant of Record through Stripe Managed Payments, and your purchase appears as Sold through Link. Stripe processes checkout and transaction information under the Stripe Privacy Policy and the Link Privacy Policy. Stripe shares transaction information with us so we can deliver and support your Kirocast license. Stripe sends your receipts, invoices, and refund notifications directly from Link, and you can manage your orders at link.com.

Emails

Our emails, including license emails, are sent through Mailjet, which processes your email address and the messages we send you on our behalf under the Mailjet Privacy Policy. If you start a free trial, you may receive:

  • The 6-digit code that confirms your address.
  • When the trial ends, three days after it starts, a short personal email from Gabrielle, Kirocast's founder, asking how it went.
  • Seven days after the trial starts, one reminder that your recordings are still in the app, only if you kept "Receive Kirocast updates" ticked and have not bought a license.
  • Kirocast updates, only if you ticked "Receive Kirocast updates".

The email from Gabrielle and the reminder are sent between 9:00 and 18:00 in your time zone. Every email except the code carries an unsubscribe link, which stops the trial emails and Kirocast updates; you can also email us. Unsubscribing does not end your trial or affect your license.

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not use your recordings or exported videos to train our models.
  • We do not access the content of your recordings or projects stored on your device.

Content created in the app stays on your device until you delete it. Diagnostic and analytics data, where collected, is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Notification-list and support correspondence is kept as long as needed to assist you and for our records. We keep your trial email address and updates choice until you ask us to delete them; if you unsubscribe, we keep a record of it so we do not email you again. We keep the hashed identifier of your Mac, with the dates of its trial, for as long as we offer the free trial, so that each Mac gets one trial. If you ask us to delete your data, we erase your email address and updates choice but keep that identifier and the trial dates, no longer linked to any address or license, so the Mac does not get a second trial. We keep purchase and license records for support, fraud prevention, accounting, tax, and other legal requirements.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we handle. Because most of your content stays on your Mac, keeping your device secure (with a strong login, disk encryption, and current software) is the most important safeguard.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we hold very little personal data, most requests relate to your notification-list or trial email, support correspondence, or diagnostics. Contact us to exercise these rights and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Kirocast is not directed to children under 15 (the minimum age of digital consent in France), or the equivalent minimum age in your country, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website where appropriate.
