How do you record your screen on a Mac with Kirocast?

Kirocast runs in the menu bar. Press ⌥⌘3 for a display, ⌥⌘4 for a window or ⌥⌘5 for an area, and the recording bar appears over your work. It carries the three sources, a microphone picker, a camera picker and Record. Choose Window and Kirocast lists the windows you have open by app; choose Area and you drag the region you want. Narration is transcribed on your Mac as you speak, and a camera is captured as its own track. Press stop and the take lands in a small card over your work. Kirocast runs on macOS 15 or later.

Three ways to frame the shot

The bar opens on the source picker, and each source has its own shortcut. Reach for the shortcut and Kirocast comes up already set to that one.

    Display

    The whole screen. The bar names the display it is set to - “Built-in Retina Display” - so you can read which screen you are about to record before you press anything.

  2. ⌥⌘4

    Window

    Kirocast lists the windows you have open, grouped by app and labelled with the document each one holds, so you pick the right Figma file or terminal by name rather than by hunting for it.

  3. ⌥⌘5

    Area

    Drag the region you want. Useful when the thing worth showing is one panel of a wide screen and the rest is context nobody needs.

Your voice and your face, when they help

Two pickers sit beside the sources. Add either one when the recording calls for it; a screen on its own is already a complete take.

Microphone

Pick the mic you are already wearing and talk through what you are doing. Kirocast transcribes it on your Mac while you record, so the words end up on the timeline as well as in the audio - that is the transcript that lands beside the video when you export for AI, and the one a Talk mode take hands your agent.

Camera

Your built-in camera, a Desk View, or anything else plugged in. Kirocast captures it as its own track and composites it over the screen recording, so you can size the bubble, move it, or take it out later in the editor and the screen recording underneath is untouched.

Then press Record

Kirocast starts capturing, and you can pause and resume as you go. Press stop and the take lands in a small card over your work: play it back, bin it, export it, or open the editor. Automatic zoom has already followed your clicks by the time you look at it.

Questions people ask

Do I have to open the app first?
Kirocast is already running in the menu bar. The shortcut brings the bar up over whatever is on screen, so the thing you want to record stays where it is.
Can I pause in the middle of a take?
Yes. Pause and resume from the bar while the recording is running.
What happens when I stop?
The take lands in a small card over your work. Play it back, bin it, export it, or open the editor. Export for AI writes the video with its two JSON sidecars for an agent to read; the regular export writes the polished version for a person.
