1Copy the config
Choose Settings… from the Kirocast menu bar icon, open AI agents, and under Setup choose Copy Config. Kirocast confirms: Config copied. Paste it into any other MCP-capable agent.
Your clipboard now holds this:
{
"mcpServers" : {
"kirocast" : {
"command" : "/Applications/Kirocast.app/Contents/MacOS/kirocast-mcp"
}
}
} The whole entry is a single command: the path to the helper.
2Paste it into your client
Open your client’s MCP settings and add the entry:
- Your first MCP server in this client: paste the whole block.
- Other servers already listed: add the
"kirocast"entry next to them, inside the samemcpServersobject. Your other servers stay as they are. - A client with its own format: create a server named
kirocastwhose command is the path tokirocast-mcp. That path is the only value Kirocast needs.
Clients read their MCP servers when a session starts, so open a new session once the entry is saved. The first time it connects, Kirocast asks you to allow it. See Allow and revoke agents.
Where the helper lives
kirocast-mcp is a small helper inside Kirocast itself, in Kirocast.app/Contents/MacOS. Your client starts it, and it carries messages between your client and the Kirocast app.
Copy Config always writes the path of the copy of Kirocast you are running. With Kirocast in /Applications, that is the path shown above, and it stays valid through every update. If you move Kirocast to another folder, choose Copy Config again and paste the new path over the old one.
When Kirocast is closed
Your client may start the helper whenever a session opens, and Kirocast stays closed until you ask for it. While it is closed, your agent sees a single tool, launch_kirocast, with a note that the other tools appear once Kirocast is open.
- Ask your agent to record. It calls
launch_kirocast, which opens Kirocast in the background. - Or open Kirocast yourself. The helper notices within a second.
Either way, the helper tells your client the tool list has changed, and the full set arrives. If your client keeps showing only launch_kirocast, start a new session with Kirocast open: it connects straight to the full list.
Check the connection
In Settings › AI agents, the Connection panel shows where things stand:
| Item | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Listening | A green dot: Kirocast is ready for agents. A red dot reads Not listening. |
| Server | The full path to kirocast-mcp, the same path Copy Config writes. |
| Socket | Where the helper reaches the app: ~/Library/Application Support/Kirocast/mcp.sock. Show in Finder opens that folder. |
For a quick test, ask your agent to call recording_status. It is safe at any time, and it reports whether Kirocast can capture your screen and control the pointer.
